About the penultimate poet

The ancient Greeks understood that comedy and tragedy were, seemingly, one and the same. Today, we are familiar with the saying, "I laughed 'til I cried." The recent death of Robin Williams tragically brings this point home, and hopefully suggests that when the tears are gone, there will be laughter again.

He will be missed. He will be remembered. Thalia is the Muse of comedy and idyllic poetry. Her name means "to flourish" for her art flourishes through time. The memory of Robin Williams, who made us laugh and cry will too.

Thalia was the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the eighth-born and penultimate of the nine Muses.
